MICHELLE: Given the fact that I’m fidgeting impatiently for its arrival, I must pick Ooku volume twelve.
ASH: It’s Ooku for me, too! As much as I love What Did You Eat Yesterday?, Ooku is probably my favorite Yoshinaga manga, so I’m always glad to see a new volume released.
ANNA: Put me down for Ooku too, always happy to see a new volume of this released.
MJ: It’s another vote for Ooku from me! This is unsurprising, I’m sure. With me, Yoshinaga always wins.
SEAN: Much as Ooku is awesome, I can’t be pulled away from the lure of light novels this week. I’ll give my pick to the 6th volume of Log Horizon, which gives Akatsuki some much needed depth, and shows how the series carries on in Shiroe’s absence.

November 17, 2016 at 1:50 amNo votes for Sunny? I’m so sad that this is the last volume. It has such nuanced, realistic characterizations of foster kids, who never seem to get much realism when they’re depicted in fiction.
Don’t get me wrong; I love Ooku, too! But it’s faux-shakespearian translation and tendency towards melodrama in its weaker moments make it harder for me to engage in right away (if they published it more than once a year, it would be easier to stay engaged and recall story details).

November 17, 2016 at 7:47 amIt was a tough choice! :) But I absolutely agree with you on Sunny (and the unfortunate translation choices for Ooku). The Sunny hardcovers are some of the most beautifully designed and produced books that Viz has released recently, too.
