Just a quick note to let you know that a review of mine went up this evening at Manga Recon’s Otaku Bookshelf. The review is of Vertical’s release of Sakie Yokota’s heartbreaking memoir, North Korea Kidnapped My Daughter, and I hope you’ll take a moment to stop by and read it. This is not a perfect book by far, but I would recommend it to anyone. It’s a story that very much deserves to be read.
In other news, I finally finished reading Tokyo Babylon, and now I’m kind of traumatized.

February 25, 2009 at 10:27 pmI will probably be writing up a full series review, to be posted in the near future! I don’t know how many people will care at this late date, but I admit I’m dying to talk about it. Though probably I should not talk about the ending, just in case there is actually anyone else out there who hasn’t yet read the series. :)

February 26, 2009 at 1:08 pmGreat review of North Korea Kidnapped My Daughter.
I’ve been avoiding Tokyo Babylon and X because they seem a little too soap opera and bishonen for me. I’m interested in reading your review.

February 26, 2009 at 7:00 pmThank you!!
I haven’t yet read X (I only have two volumes of it so far, and I kind of want to let Tokyo Babylon really sink in first), but I wouldn’t describe TB in that way at least. I’ll try to explain clearly in my review. :) Hopefully I’ll have one up in the next week or so.

February 26, 2009 at 8:27 pmI’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on TB, but also on X whenever you get to it. ^_^ They’re very different works, IMO, and I personally prefer X, although I think it has some fairly deep flaws. I recommend it frequently but never without qualifying the recommendation, which is a marked difference from most of the other things I rec.

February 26, 2009 at 9:00 pmI’m definitely looking forward to reading X. I only have volumes 1 & 4 at the moment (not very useful, eh?) but I’m hoping some mangatude action can help me out with that. :D
