Okawa has long been my favorite member of CLAMP. Her stories are unlike any other I’ve read, and it’s always going to be my opinion that the great art alone (provided by the other three members of CLAMP) can only go so far. In deciding how else I could contribute to the CLAMP MMF with deadlines looming, sleep oncoming and a job awaiting me in the morning, I decided to share what is, in my opinion, the greatest single dialogue CLAMP has ever written between their characters, found in X Volume 13 (omnibus 5 at the rate Viz is releasing them; you can also see it in the X anime in “Newborn”), which challenged my perceptions of all human beings head-on in a way nothing before ever had. Also included is the follow-up conversation.
So what do you think? There’s a lot that you could write about from the exchange… What do you think about Satsuki’s arguments against humanity? What about Kusanagi’s answer?
Okawa’s written lots of great dialogue through the years… is there another conversation that particularly stands out to you?

July 30, 2012 at 9:43 amAnother great peice of dialouge is the “someone just for me” speech twords the end of Chobits where Hydeki explains why he loves Chii and completely accepts the consequnces of what that entails. As far as the speech in X/1999 the debate over killing and it’s rightness versues wrongness. All hinges on where you get your final ethacal or moral standerds from. I would argue that all agruments against murder are ultmitely “borrowed capital” from the Christian world viewto borrow a phrase from Apoligist Cornelius Van Til.
As far as Satsuki’s argument goes thier is no compresson becuese animals are in short not moral creatures human beings are and their is no equvilincy between acidently crushing a bug and murdering someone in cold blood an Nietzschean ethic of “might makes right” is in the long run self defeating and ultimtely leads to Nihilism.
As far as Kusnagi’s answer I say depends on the situation when a “innocent” dies yes their is a bit of sadness but an ultmite aceptince finaly washes over me. The death of the wicked the only sorrow I feel at that (if any) is the eternal loss and deperivation that lost person will face in eternity i.e. Hell. All in all the death of one person may be mourned by someone that is true but their are times when the grater principle of Justice trumps the injunction against killing (Just War The Death Penality ect). I cant begin to completely quantify my answer but as I said it all ultmitely boils down to where one gets their “world view” from.
