Well, the first time Ludwig has sex with Hornig, he drugs him and ties him up to do it. Then later he apologizes and Hornig's all, "I'm your servant, you don't have to be concerned with my feelings," (or something along those lines). It's unpleasant, and Ludwig is never brought to justice for it by any means, but that's the kind of thing I meant by, "Higuri’s tale is undeniably engaging and honestly romantic, despite her tendency to sentimentalize some disturbingly imbalanced bedroom dynamics which, granted, may not be far removed from class-based sexual politics of the day."

I figure it's possibly a realistic portrayal of what a man in that time and in Ludwig's position might do to get sex, thanks to extreme classism, among other things. So though I didn't like it, I accepted it as part of the story. YMMV.

Does this have any weird or kinky stuff? Because as much as I love Higuri You's Cantarella and Seimaden, I had to drop the one yaoi of hers that I tried when, part way through the first volume, the main character's love interest chained him up in the basement and whipped him unconscious. And then the manga kinda dismissed it.

Well, it's hard perhaps to commit when you already know that it can't end well. :)

As good as this manga is and as beautiful, I could not finish v.1. Maybe the tragic nature was just too much for me. Perhaps, I can finish, another time.
