If there is any long series that is worth picking up at this late date, it's NANA. I highly recommend it if you can find the volumes and the time!

This makes me wish I had jumped on this title when it started. 20 back volumes is a bit daunting to me.... Which is unfortunate, because it sounds amazing, and I've seen little bit of the anime and enjoyed that. Plan on renting the anime through Netflix, as well as the live action films. But I may never get to the manga (at least not in the "proper" way).
Unfortunately, I didn't really start getting into manga until 2004 or 2005, and Nana started here in 2005. I doubt I'd ever heard of it then. Same goes for Goong.
So now I've taken to combing through Diamond previews and ordering the first volume of any title I find interesting, when it premiers. I've missed out on too much awesome stuff. :(

Er...Okay, I think I'll try and read this again. I did read (and actually own) the first volume and I really enjoyed, and I read some more through scanlations...but I was kinda afraid to read it. I'm about to present you with the most ridiculous reason why too ^^; If it was really as good as everyone says I didn't want it to replace Fruits Basket in my heart as the best thing ever brought into this world. I mean, apparently it did in Japan, knocking Furuba off some sort of long-standing best-sellers list. So I really didn't want to risk it-which sounds crazy, but that was my reasoning behind not reading it.
But I think I will now.

I guess that's really a matter of opinion at this point. Certainly they love each other very much, and that relationship is probably deeper than what either of them have with the men in their lives. It all depends on your point of view, and what you think it means to be "in love." :)
